Pre-Wedding Planning for Cosmetic Treatments

Beautiful bride in a long white dress. Handsome groom in a black suit.
Whether you are the bride, mother-of-the-bride, or a member of the bridal party, you want to look your best on the big day. At The Laser & Skin Surgery Center, Dr. Renuka Diwan can help you look and feel your best for the wedding with a variety of treatment options depending on your timeline. Like other aspects of the wedding, it’s best to plan ahead. Here’s a guide to give you an idea of how much time it may take for various treatments.

4 Days

If you are looking for a quick way to exfoliate dry, rough skin, remove peach fuzz for soft, smooth glowing skin or improve uneven skin tone, dermaplaning is a great choice. This non-invasive treatment rejuvenates your skin with no downtime. For a flawless red carpet-ready finish that celebrities have before big events, Dr. Diwan offers Aquagold microneedling with microinfusion. Make time for this at least 3 days (preferably 7 days) before your big day.

2-4 Weeks

For those who are on a short timeline and want to reduce the appearance of oiliness, pores, wrinkles or scars, we offer AQUAGOLD® microneedling treatments and dermal fillers like Juvéderm®.

6-8 Weeks

If you have a couple of months to prepare, there are a few more options. Non-invasive facial treatments that provide best results with a series of 6 treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels. BOTOX® for wrinkles and excessive perspiration is ideal in this time frame, allowing time for a second visit for any touch up.

For longer eyelashes, we recommend Latisse®, which helps stimulate hair growth. Finally, if you want to address loose skin, Dr. Diwan can perform a mini facelift. A minimum of 8 weeks is recommended for planning a mini facelift.

3-6 Months

If you have a few months before the wedding day visible veins or sunspots can be significantly reduced with laser treatment, IPL treatment, or sclerotherapy. Excess skin on your upper or lower eyelids, can be removed with a blepharoplasty. Laser resurfacing or a series of microneedling treatments

can provide significant improvement of wrinkles and skin texture and allow time for complete recovery.

6-8 Months

If you’ve started planning even sooner, you’ll have enough time for body sculpting options. Dr. Diwan recommends either liposuction or CoolSculpting® for stubborn fat. Kybella® injections improve a double chin and fullness of jowls.  If you’re going to bare your legs, we highly recommend Apollo Radiofrequency TriPolar treatment and other treatments for cellulite.

1-2 Years

Patients who plan far in advance can address most, if not all of their needs. You have enough time for laser hair removal, and tattoo removal.

If you need help preparing for a wedding, call The Laser & Skin Surgery Center today at 440-871-9832 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Diwan. We welcome patients living in or around Westlake and Cleveland, Ohio.

Kybella®

Stubborn fat beneath the chin (submental fat) can be extremely difficult to get rid of. Many men and women continue to struggle with the appearance of a double chin despite exercising regularly, eating right, and maintaining a healthy weight. While facial liposuction can help to sculpt a slimmer, well-contoured chin, not everyone is ready to undergo a surgical procedure. Dr. Diwan now offers Kybella, an injectable, FDA approved treatment that can help to finally eliminate that problem chin fat.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment that is administered beneath the chin in order to reduce stubborn double chin fat. You will have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Diwan in order to create a personalized Kybella treatment plan. This will be based on the amount of existing fat, your natural facial contours, and your desired outcome.

When you come in for your Kybella treatment, Dr. Diwan will mark your injection sites using a specially created template. As Kybella is injected at the marked areas beneath your chin, the naturally occurring bio acid causes the fat cells to die. Over time, the destroyed fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body, leaving behind a slim, well-toned contour of your chin, jawline and neck.

How long is Kybella recovery?

Most patients are able to resume their regular activities shortly after their Kybella treatment with Dr. Diwan. You may experience some numbness or redness along your neck, but this should fade over the next few days.

While Kybella is a non-surgical treatment, you will achieve the best result from a board certified dermatologic surgeon like Dr. Diwan.

Kybella Reviews from Real Patients

“Dr. Diwan is a true expert in her field. Her staff is also highly qualified. Dr. Diwan delivers the results she promises. She has the expertise that is required and sought after by her patients.”

“Dr. Diwan and her office staff are extremely professional and friendly. I have been very satisfied with all my experiences under her care.

When will I notice the results of my Kybella treatment?

You should begin noticing results after just one month. Dr. Diwan may recommend a series of two or four Kybella sessions in order to achieve your desired outcome.

The wonderful thing about Kybella is that once the fat cells are eliminated, they will not come back. However, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid excessive weight gain.

Sclerotherapy in Westlake, OH

Spider veins—the thin visible dark blue or red veins that appear on the legs—are a common problem, especially among women. While they usually do not cause symptoms, spider veins can affect your confidence and may prevent you from wearing certain types of clothing due to embarrassment. Thankfully, however, there is a way to treat these veins, which helps to boost confidence for many patients!

At Cleveland’s Laser Skin and Surgery Center, Dr. Renuka Diwan MD, FAAD is happy to offer sclerotherapy to all patients looking to eliminate the appearance of spider veins on their legs. If you’re interested in learning more about sclerotherapy, check out our FAQs below:

How is Sclerotherapy performed?

Sclerotherapy remains the treatment of choice for  patients with spider veins, and can provide extremely effective results. The results are more predictable than those from laser treatment of spider veins.

Sclerotherapy is an office procedure, which involves injection of the spider veins with a concentrated salt-water (saline) solution. Other solutions are available for injection, but saline is the safest and most effective in our experience. Dr. Diwan has helped many men and women by safely and effectively treating their spider veins with saline injection sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy causes minor discomfort—similar to that from eyebrow tweezing —for most patients. If desired, Dr. Diwan can use an anesthetic cream prior to your Sclerotherapy to minimize any discomfort.

How long is Sclerotherapy recovery?

Following your treatment, you should be able to return to your normal routine with little to no downtime. You will have small bruises at the injection sites which fade over 7-10 days. Wearing long pants or a long skirt helps to hide the bruises. We recommend wearing compression hose for the treated areas for three days. Dr. Diwan will provide you with detailed care instructions once your treatment is complete.

When will I notice the results of my Sclerotherapy treatment?

After just one sclerotherapy treatment, the problem veins often fade dramatically or disappear completely. However, it will take six weeks (*) for the final result from the treatment session to be evident.

A second or third treatment may be recommended for further improvement and disappearance of the veins. The best time to have sclerotherapy is in the fall, winter, and spring since it is easier to keep the legs protected from the sun and hide the small temporary bruises.  Sun protection before and after sclerotherapy is important to minimize the risk of pigmentation, especially in darker skin types.

As new veins may appear, over time, in patients with a tendency to have spider veins, additional treatments with Dr. Diwan may be necessary to keep your legs looking their best.

Can Anyone Be a Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

Most patients who receive sclerotherapy are between the ages of 30 – 60, (but younger and older patients can be treated) and are in good overall health. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, this treatment is not recommended. Sclerotherapy is also not recommended for patients with blood clotting disorders.

There Any Risks With Sclerotherapy?

Just like any other injectable treatment, sclerotherapy has risks. These complications can include infection (which can be treated with antibiotics), pigmentation of the skin, appearance of tiny spider veins and, very rarely, a scar. However, with the proper care and attention these risks can easily be avoided. Dr. Diwan is dedicated to ensuring all patients have a safe and comfortable experience during their sclerotherapy treatment, and achieve excellent results.

How Long Will the Results of My Sclerotherapy Treatment Last?

While the veins that are treated are permanently removed and their appearance eliminated, new spider and varicose veins may develop on the legs over time due to the predisposition, usuallly genetic, to forming them and aging. As new veins appear, periodic treatments with Dr. Diwan may be necessary to keep your legs looking their best.

Not only does sclerotherapy improve the appearance of veins on the legs, it also helps restore confidence for those who have been insecure about the way their legs look because of their veins. Lip Augmentation

Thin lips are a common concern for many and may be the result of either genetics or age. Having fuller lips often translates into feeling more attractive, a more youthful look,  higher self-esteem, and of course–more smiles. At the Laser and Skin Surgery Center, Dr. Renuka Diwan MD, FAAD offers patients a non-surgical approach to lip enhancement, helping her patients achieve the fuller, more youthful smiles they desire.

How is a non-surgical lip augmentation performed?

The lips become thinner with age and restoring fullness is an important part of facial rejuvenation. Greater fullness and definition of the upper or lower lips can be achieved with a painless, surgery-free lip enhancement. Dr. Diwan is able to increase the fullness of the lips using dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Restylane Silk  or Juvéderm Ultra®. These fillers are safely injected into the lips to enhance their definition and size while maintaining a natural appearance and proportion. These filler injections can be repeated periodically to maintain the desired fullness of your lips. A very small amount of Botox, carefully injected in the lips, can also increase the visible height of the lip, and help to prevent too much fullness from fillers.

How do Lip Fillers Work?

Most lip filler treatments involve the use of a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler.

HA fillers are injected directly into the lips to enhance definition and/or fullness. HA is beneficial because it not only plumps the lips but also attracts and binds water from within to deliver a healthy, natural-looking pout. To really understand this process, it’s important to first know what HA is. This sugar derivative is produced naturally in the body to hydrate eyes, joints, and skin. The power of this compound is that it can bind to and retain water molecules equal to 1,000 times its own weight. With such moisturizing abilities, HA makes for a perfect filler: it is biologically inspired, protects tissues, and gives long-lasting results.

Do Lip Injections Hurt?

Getting injections into the delicate tissue around the mouth can be intimidating. D. Diwan recommends applying a numbing cream to desensitize the skin before commencing with your treatment. There are other simple techniques used in the office to reduce discomfort as well. Many of the injectable products that are used for lip enhancement contain a little bit of lidocaine, a mild anesthetic which also reduces discomfort. Generally, lip filler injections are very well-tolerated. This is true even when treating thin or deflated lips or fine lines that border the lips. If you’re curious about getting lip injections, please don’t hesitate to ask us! We’re here to make sure you look your best while also feeling comfortable throughout your procedure.

Are Lip Injections Right for Me?

Lip augmentation is a common nonsurgical procedure that is performed nearly every day in our office. However, just because lip injections are popular doesn’t mean it is right for you. How do you know? You can begin to explore the value of lip injections if you aren’t happy with the shape of your mouth. Are your lips naturally thin? Do they disappear when you speak or smile? Have your lips gone from luscious to lackluster as you’ve aged? Do you notice the vertical lines around your mouth more than the volume of your lips themselves? It doesn’t take long to spot the things about your lips that you might not love. Once you do, your next step is to talk to Dr. Diwan, an experienced injector, to find out if nonsurgical lip augmentation is right for you.

Could Lip Fillers Make Me Look Unnatural?

Our goal is to enhance your look not just your lips. Dr. Diwan has an esthetic eye for keeping the fullness of your lips in proportion to the rest of your face. Unfortunately, people often have overdone lips from less experienced injectors. When you consult with Dr. Diwan you can expect to have a discussion of what will enhance your lips and your face, without looking unnatural. Lip augmentation may take place over a couple of appointments to make sure the enhancement is gradual and not overdone.

Is there anything I Should Avoid After Lip Injections?

After lip injections, for 24 hours, you may want to observe the following:

  • Apply cold packs and keep your head elevated
  • Avoid rubbing, massaging, or exfoliating the lips.
  • Kiss, but do so gently!
  • Avoid using a straw when drinking.
  • Drink lots of water and avoid alcohol.

How long is lip augmentation recovery?

There is little to no downtime following a non-surgical lip enhancement with Dr. Diwan. You may experience some minor swelling or discomfort, but this should fade over the next couple days. Dr. Diwan will provide you with detailed care instructions.  Most patients are able to return to their daily routines.

When will I notice my lip enhancement results?

You will notice an immediate change in the look of your lips following your treatment. At first, they may appear a little swollen, but over the next few days, any swelling will dissipate, and your lips will appear naturally fuller.

How long will the results of my lip augmentation last?

Because the fillers used will not provide permanent results, we recommend returning for a little more filler to maintain lip enhancement every 6 months or when you notice that your lips are losing  their fullness (*).

Restylane® & Restylane Lyft®

Facial lines and wrinkles are a normal part of aging. However, they can often leave you feeling self-conscious about your appearance– or even less like yourself. Restylane, Restylane Silk and Restylane Lyft are three popular dermal fillers used to reduce or eliminate the signs of aging and restore a more youthful facial appearance.

How are Restylane & Restylane Lyft treatments performed?

Restyle, Restylane Silk and Restylane Lyft are non-animal derived, FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler products.  Hyaluronic acid is one of the natural components of skin. Dr. Diwan carefully injects Restylane into the skin to fill out surface depressions such as wrinkles and depressed acne scars. Restylane can significantly improve skin creases on the forehead, between the eyebrows, or on the upper and lower lips; it can reduce smile lines and marionette lines (extending down from the corners of the mouth), as well as  the creases across the neck and creases on the ear lobes. Restylane is also FDA-approved for restoring the fullness of the lips. Restylane Silk is the filler of choice for very fine lines on the lips or eyelids; or for creases in the thin skin of the neck. Restylane Lyft is similar to Restylane, but is more robust and more suitable for deeper grooves on the face or for restoring fullness to the face in hollow areas or areas of larger volume loss. 2016-11-17 10_59_34-Loss of Fullness Before & After Gallery These photos are from a specific patient. How Long is Restylane Recovery?

A useful feature of Restylane, Restylane Silk and Restylane Lyft is that there is no need for allergy testing before having treatment, because they are not  animal-derived products. Some redness–easily camouflaged by makeup–occurs in the treated areas and may last for a few days. Otherwise, there is no downtime following your treatment.

When will I notice the final results of my Restylane or Restylane Lyft treatment?

An important advantage of these two fillers is that the improvement obtained with Restylane and Restylane Lyft is immediate and expected to last 6 to 12 months (*). As you notice the results of your treatment beginning to fade, you may choose to return for touch-up treatments to maintain a youthful appearance.

Sculptra®

Losing volume in your face can leave you with a gaunt or aged appearance. This can occur for various reasons, but is most often the result of a loss of facial fat as you get older. Dr. Diwan can use Sculptra to help replenish facial volume for a lifted, more youthful appearance. Dial (440) 871-9832 today to book your Sculptra® consultation with Dr. Diwan!

Diwan_July16Blast copy 2

How is a Sculptra treatment performed?

A youthful face is often fuller and softer than the face of a more mature person. Aging causes hollowing of the cheeks, temples and other parts of the face. Sculptra is an FDA-approved synthetic filler for the non-surgical augmentation of facial volume.

Thin, athletic people also have loss of fat and a sunken look of the cheeks.  Restoration of facial volume has a rejuvenating effect, restoring the face to a fuller, more youthful appearance.  Sculptra requires preparation of the product two days prior to injection, and your treatment must be scheduled and confirmed with Dr. Diwan at least two days ahead of time.

sculptra treatment

You and Dr. Diwan will develop an effective treatment plan for your Sculptra procedure. Your Sculptra treatment will consist of several individual sessions spread about two months apart. With each injection under the skin, Sculptra works to replenish collagen beneath the skin, providing you with gradual, natural-looking results.

How long is Sculptra recovery?

There is no recovery or downtime following a Sculptra treatment. After each Sculptra session with Dr. Diwan, you are free to return to your normal schedule.

When will I notice the final results of my Sculptra treatment?

It will take several sessions ( an average of six) before achieving the full results of your Sculptra treatment.
