What is IPL?

IPL can be used to treat any area of the body. IPL (or Intense Pulsed Light) treatments are a great way to refresh your skin and maintain a youthful and healthy complexion. IPL treatments use high-intensity pulsed light therapy to safely and effectively target specific skin issues from common signs of aging to acne, veins and even unwanted hair.

Are IPL Treatments Right for Me?

IPL can be used to treat a number of skin concerns. Dr. Diwan may recommend an IPL for the treatment of:

• Lines and wrinkles: IPL treatments are extremely effective at minimizing the appearance of signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
• Acne: IPL can be used to both kill acne-causing bacteria and fade acne scars.
• Vascular lesions: IPL can be used to treat visible veins, such as spider veins or broken capillaries, and redness of the skin.
• Pigmentation flaws: IPL can help correct pigmentation irregularities such as freckles, sunspots (also called liver spots) sun damage and melasma.
• Unwanted hair: IPL can also be used for hair reduction of darker hair colors.

Is There Any Pain or Downtime Associated with IPL Treatments?

Discomfort from IPL treatments is reduced with a numbing cream during treatment of pigmentation and hair removal, and by pre-cooling the skin when treating “broken capillaries” and redness. Once your IPL treatment is complete, you will be able to return to your normal schedule with little to no downtime. You may experience some swelling and redness, but this should fade soon as your skin continues to heal.
