Summer has come and gone. In Ohio, it has left telltale signs of sun damage on the skin of many. As the chill of fall arrives it presents a great opportunity to focus on repairing sun damage. It’s also a great time to prepare for the colder weather ahead by adjusting your skin care regimen. At the Laser & Skin Surgery Center, we offer a number of skin care treatments and skin care products (skincare lines and treatments) to restore the health of your skin and keep it looking its best.
Post-Summer Repair
The effects of sun exposure result in dull, peeling, blotchy skin with redness and brown spots. The right treatment or combination of treatments and products offered at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center can reverse each of these changes. Procedures such as chemical peels, laser peel, IPL and problem-specific laser treatments, microneedling, Lytera botanical lightening system or ZO lightening system will help revive your skin and restore a healthy glow.
Chemical peels and laser peels remove the sun-toughened, peeling and discolored outer layer of skin, to unveil a fresh, youthful appearance. Peels help refine the appearance of pores, lighten pigmentation, fade fine lines and improve blocked pores and acne. You can be excited about your skin again!
Keep Your Skin Healthy This Fall And Winter
Colder, drier weather makes long, hot showers irresistible. The longer exposure to hotter water strips the skin of moisture –retaining molecules and leaves behind dry, wrinkled, itchy “winter” skin. Keep your showers warm, rather than hot, keep them short (5-10 min), and look for non-irritating soap-free cleansers. For the face, a gentle cleanser such as ZO Foamacleanse, for gentle cleansing, is a first step in preparing your skin. Next, an antioxidant cream with Vitamins C and E, and Coenzyme Q10 by ZO or Revision provides protection and correction from sun and aging. If your facial skin needs more hydration, addition of ZO Revitatrol cream or Elta MD Barrier Renewal Complex can add a hydration boost. (A toner is optional).
Special areas like the thin skin around the eyes, and the neck call for their own solutions. The Elta MD eye gel has been tested by our staff and confirmed to improve the appearance of the thin, delicate skin in a month, when applied twice a day with sunscreen. The neck skin is best supported by Nectifrim cream. Nectifirm® by Revision uses antioxidants, vitamin C & E, peptides, plant extracts, and ceramide 2 to help rejuvenate the neck. Twice daily application of Nectifirm firms the skin to reduces crepiness, creases and sagging in 8-12 weeks.
Finally, cover up your face and neck with a sunscreen. Without sunscreen, continued exposure to ultraviolet rays blunts the benefits of procedures and products. Yes, you still need daily sunscreen on your face and neck (when it’s warm enough to uncover) even though summer is over, and even on cloudy days! Take advantage of the Elta MD tinted sunscreens with zinc, titanium and antioxidants and SPF higher than 30. You can try out the sunscreen testers at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center, to make sure you like the product you purchase.
The skin on the rest of the body also needs soothing hydration by applying cream moisturizers with soothing ingredients. Elbows, knees, heels, soles and hands need even more hydration with thick creams containing petrolatum. Last, but not least, keep your humidifier running to increase the moisture content of the air in your home. You’ll lose less moisture from your skin, making it easier to hydrate.
