Basal Cell Cancer is the most common form of skin cancer, followed by squamous cell cancer. Melanoma is less common than either basal or squamous cell cancer, and it is the most aggressive of skin cancers. In addition to these three types, other less common forms of skin cancer are also encountered.
Basal Cell Cancers
Basal cell cancers can have a variety of different appearances to the naked eye. Under a microscope, basal cell cancers have different growth patterns as well – some being more aggressive than others. Different treatments are available for basal cell cancers. These include:
Simple surgical removal followed by a repair of the skin
Mohs Micrographic Surgery followed by reconstruction of the skin
Treatment with Efudex cream
Radiation therapy
Except for radiation (which is performed at a hospital or outpatient radiation therapy facility), all treatments are offered at our office. Which treatment is recommended for a particular skin cancer depends on a number of characteristics of the skin cancer. After considering the location, size, presence or absence of clear definition, the failure of previous treatments, microscopic appearance, etc., the appropriate treatment is recommended.
Mohs micrographic surgery provides the best cure rate for many skin cancers. An office procedure performed with local anesthetic, it involves step by step removal of the cancer until only cancer-free tissue is left, as determined my microscopic examination of the removed tissue. In 99 percent of cases, the wound created in the skin by removal of the skin cancer is evaluated and reconstructed within the following days, with very gratifying cosmetic results.

Skin Cancer Treatment Reconstruction
Reconstruction of wounds in the skin, resulting from skin cancer removal, restores normal appearance and function. Dr. Diwan has fellowship training in Procedural Dermatology which gave her the opportunity to learn reconstructive techniques. Am I An Ideal Candidate For Scar Revision?
With various options available, scar revision treatments can be suitable for people of all ages. It is optimal to be in good general health and follow post-treatment care instructions. Some revision procedures may not be well suited for people on anticoagulant medications who cannot interrupt these medications, due to the increased risk of bleeding. People with underlying health problems such as uncontrolled diabetes may also have poor wound healing and may not be good candidates for surgical treatment. How Long does the Scar Revision Procedure Take?
Depending on the treatment option selected for your scar, revision treatment may take just a few minutes or over an hour. For example, getting dermal fillers to lessen the appearance of a depressed scar may take less than 10 minutes. Laser treatment of multiple facial scars could take an hour or longer.
Will the Results of My Scar Revision Look Natural?
Scar revision treatments are approached with one goal in mind: to lessen the appearance of a noticeable scar. You can expect your results to look natural but you may still have some visible scarring after your treatment. A scar may completely go away but often scars are significantly improved rather than completely eliminated. How is a mini-facelift different from a full facelift?
We understand that you have many options when trying to find the best mini facelift in Cleveland, OH. How is eyelid surgery performed?

The tiny holes pierced in the earlobe for earrings can become elongated over time. Factors such as the weight of heavy earrings worn daily; the pulling of dangling earrings when they are caught on sweaters, hair brushes, or fingers; and the loss of elasticity of aging earlobe skin all work together to slowly pull on the small holes, turning them into long slits or tears in your earlobes. If you feel self-conscious or embarrassed by the look of your ears, and ill-fitting earrings, Dr. Diwan can reconstruct the earlobes to a normal appearance.
How is earlobe repair performed?
Depending on the severity of your unique situation, the slits in your ears can extend all the way down the earlobe, causing it to split and no longer be able to hold an earring. The split earlobe is a deformity that can be corrected in the office with a local anesthetic (numbing injection). After numbing the area, the edges of the split or long earlobe hole are removed and the fresh edges are sewn together. If desired, the repaired earlobe is re-pierced in six weeks. It is important to wear smaller, lighter earrings to prevent the same problem from recurring.
How long is earlobe repair recovery?
After reconstruction of the earlobe, there is some swelling and, possibly, bruising of the earlobes. Some minor pain or discomfort may occur immediately after surgery, but you should be able to resume your normal routine almost immediately. However, we do recommend avoiding higher levels of physical activity and avoid unnecessary contact with your ears for the first few days. Dr. Diwan will provide you with more detailed care instructions following your own personal earlobe repair procedure. Sutures are removed a week after the repair.
When will I notice the final results of my earlobe repair surgery?
You will notice an immediate improvement in the look of your earlobes once your surgery is complete. There may be some bruising and swelling for the first week as the skin heals. Most patients will enjoy the final results of their earlobe surgery within a few weeks. The earlobes can be re-pierced 6 weeks later.
