Restylane
Restylane received FDA approval in December, 2003. It is a non-animal derived product. Restylane contains Hyaluronic Acid which is one of the normal components of skin.

It is injected into the skin to fill out surface depressions such as wrinkles and depressed acne scars. In this respect it is similar to collagen. An important advantage is that the improvement obtained with restylane is expected to last twice as long as that acheved with collagen. This means greater convenience with less frequesnt office visits at approximately the same total cost. Another useful feature of Restylane is that there is no need for allergy testing because it is not an animal-derived product. Patients wanting immediate corection can, therefore, be treated without the 6-week wait for an allergy test which is necessary for Collagen. It's a useful option for those who are allergic to Collagen. Some redness, camouflaged by make up, occures in the treated areas for a couple of days. Although Restylane is a new product in the U.S. It has been used for a few years in 60 other countries. This experience and the FDA studies have provided data confirming its safety.
