Despite the popularity of decorative tattoos, a significant number of people decide to eliminate their tattoos. Fortunately, they can be removed effectively with lasers. Tattoos from permanent make-up, radiation treatments and accidents can also be treated effectively.
Laser removal of tattoos is an office procedure associated with minor discomfort which can be lessened with pre-treatment anesthetic cream application, local anesthetic injection or oral analgesics. Many patients undergo treatment without any medication at all.
Different lasers that specifically target tattoos of different colors are used. For both amateur and professional tattoos, multiple treatments spaced six weeks apart are needed. Bruising in the treated area is expected and usually lasts for a couple of weeks. A bandage over the area is advised after treatment until the skin is healed.
Tattoo removal is not covered by medical insurance. A pre-treatment consultation is necessary. |
